Kilsyth big man Chris Patton has re-signed with the Cobras for the 2018 SEABL season.

Patton starred in his debut season with the Cobras, averaging team-highs in points (17.5ppg) and rebounding (7.8rpg), while shooting an efficient 52.0 percent from the field. The Cobras anchor down low recorded six double-doubles during the 2017 season, with his impressive play enough to net him a contract with the NBL’s Cairns Taipans.

Cobras Head Coach Justin Schueller is thrilled to have his towering center back in 2018, and expects Patton to raise his game to new heights as he enters his second season with Kilsyth.

“Chris showed last year that he is a leading big in the competition, and with a year of experience in our system, we expect big things from him moving forward,” Schueller said.

“His return was vital for what we are putting together; he’ll anchor our defence and provide an offensive presence that we believe will be a point of difference in the competition.”

Overpowering opponents with his brute force down low, Patton found himself regularly dealing with additional defensive attention in an attempt to limit his low post production. And as he became more comfortable in the Cobras system, Patton made opposing defences pay for swarming him down low, averaging four assists per contest over the final five games of the season. Patton recorded five-plus assists on four different occasions – including a season-high nine against Albury-Wodonga on July 29 – and his potential as a dangerous passer has Schueller expecting big numbers for the season ahead.

“His ability as a passer out of the post is something we will be asking more of from him, and I think he can be a triple double threat most nights for us,” Schueller said.
