The Cobras and Lady Cobras host the Frankston Blues in a big time Saturday Night Douleheader with playoff positioning on the line.

The Lady Cobras 10 game win streak came to an end in Round 14, losing a pair of games to Launceston and Geelong, despite huge weekends from Chantella Perera (27.0ppg/5.0rpg/4.5apg last two games) and Angela Beadle (23.5ppg/10.5ppg last two games). Despite the pair of losses, the Lady Cobras remain atop the league standings with a 14-4 record with four games remaining in the regular season.

Frankston enters with a 6-11 record, fifth in the South Conference standings. The Blues have slipped out of playoff position having lost three of their past four games, but despite their recent struggles, Frankston possesses some dangerous offensive weapons. The Lady Blues are led by Carley Mijovic (19.7ppg/10.2rpg/3.0apg), Tenaya Phillips (15.2ppg/5.7rpg/3.7apg) and Chelsea Snyder (12.1ppg/7.7rpg), with the trio able to light it up on the offensive end in a hurry.

With Lady Cobras looking to maintain the league’s top record, Coach Sam Woosnam will need Perera and Beadle to continue their hot form, but it will be the likes of Sarah Parsons, Rosie Moult and Jordyn O’Shea that will need to up their production on the offensive end. Parsons, Moult and O’Shea were stellar in Round 13 but struggled last weekend, so if they can get back on track and the Lady Cobras can contain Mijovic, Phillips and Snyder, they have a chance to record their 15th game of the season.

The Cobra Men suffered a setback in Round 14, losing a pair of winnable games to NW Tasmania and Geelong to drop to 8-12 on the season. Their troubles were compounded by the loss of star point guard Daniel Dillon, who suffered a season-ending injury during the Cobras loss to NW Tasmania. Despite their rough weekend, the Cobras are still in the playoff mix in the East Conference, but cannot afford any hiccups with just four games remaining.

Frankston enters with a 6-13 record, sixth in the South Conference standings. The Blues have been impressive of late, winning three of their past four games, including a 102-95 victory over Bendigo on Friday night. The Blues are led by Alex Francis, Nate Buss, Bennie Lewis and Taylor Dyson, with the foursome all averaging over 13 points per game.

With the Cobras entering the weekend shorthanded, they will again be relying on their depth to try and keep their playoff hopes alive. Three point shooting proved to be their downfall in Round 14, so if they can get the job defensively and find the touch from outside, the Cobras have a chance to sweep the season series with the Blues and win their ninth game of the season.
