VYC MEN, WOMEN HOST WAVERLEY ON SUNDAY IN HOME OPENER

Saturday, March 18, 2017

Kilsyth’s VYC Men and Women are set to host their regular season home opener on Sunday, when they take on the Waverley Falcons.

The Cobra Women are looking to bounce back from a tough opening round loss to Altona last weekend. Despite solid performances by Brooke McGurgan (14 points, six rebounds, three blocks), Chloe Anderson (11 points) and Sarah Haberfield (eight points, eight rebounds), a shorthanded Kilsyth group was unable to overcome a cold shooting night from the field to lose, 48-69.

After a trip to Melbourne to take on the Tigers on Saturday night, Kilsyth returns home on Sunday  for the first time in 2017 as they host the Waverley Falcons. With the Falcons coming off an impressive victory over Eltham last week and Kilsyth on the tail end of a back-to-back, the Cobras will need strong contributions off the bench if they hope to defend home court.

Mark Landells’ Men enter the weekend on a high, following an impressive 89-80 win over 2016 league runners-up, Ringwood. It was the Jamie Ahale (24 points, eight rebounds) and Mitch Dielemans (23 points, four assists) show for the Cobras, with the young, sharpshooting backcourt duo picking up where they left off a season ago. Jordan Adnam (13 points, four assists) was also a key contributor in the win, while Zac Wuersching and Jed Wilson played the role of distributors as they combined for 14 assists.

Just like the Women, the Cobra Men have a tough road test on Saturday night against Melbourne before taking on the Falcons at home on Sunday. If Ahale and Dielemans can keep lighting it up from deep and the Cobras continue their impressive ball movement, they have a chance to win in their home opener for 2017.

The Women tip-off Sunday's doubleheader at 12.30pm, with the Men following at 2.30pm.
