The Lady Cobras have signed exciting combo guard Chelsea D’Angelo for the 2018 SEABL season.

“I am really excited to be playing with the Kilsyth Cobras next season under (Lady Cobras coach) Sam Woosnam,” D’Angelo said.

“It will be a great opportunity to further develop my game by playing alongside some of the best players in the competition.”

One of Australia’s top up and coming prospects, D’Angelo has enjoyed a huge year in 2017, headlined by a breakout SEABL rookie campaign with the Frankston Blues. In 17 games with the Blues, D’Angelo finished second on the team in scoring (16.6ppg) and added 5.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest. While she excels at slashing to the basket, D’Angelo also displayed an dangerous three point stroke with Frankston, shooting an impressive 39.2% from deep.

Woosnam is pleased to have the 17-year-old D’Angelo on board for the season ahead, and believes her offensive arsenal will be a big addition to the team moving forward.

“Tony (assistant coach Tony Smyth) and I are really excited that Chelsea has joined our program,” Woosnam said.

“She is a young, exciting player and is eager to come to our program to learn and better her game. Chelsea put up some impressive numbers in her first SEABL season and she’ll provide us with a scoring punch that we’ve lacked at times.”

Starring in her debut SEABL season was just one of many major achievements for the Traralgon native in 2017. Leading the Victoria Country Under 18 Women’s team in scoring, rebounding and assists at the Australian Junior Championships in April, D’Angelo guided Vic Country to a national championship and followed soon after with another gold medal as a member of the Under 17 Australian Women’s team which dominated the FIBA Oceania Championships in Guam.

Her prime-time performances on the both the national and international stage were enough to earn her a roster spot with the WNBL’s Melbourne Boomers this season, where D’Angelo will remain prior to joining the Lady Cobras in 2018. Now competing against some of Australia’s toughest guards on a daily basis, Woosnam believes D’Angelo’s time with the Boomers will help her in a big way as she enters her sophomore SEABL season.

“Chelsea is a part of the Melbourne Boomers squad this season which is only going to provide her with more experience that will transfer over into the SEABL,” Woosnam said.

“She has a huge future and I’m really looking forward to having her on our team.”
