The Lady Cobras have added a huge piece to their roster for the 2018 SEABL season, re-signing reigning league MVP Angela Beadle.

Beadle was a revelation for the Lady Cobras during her first season in Australia, with the centre’s low post dominance helping her earn the SEABL’s top honour while also helping lead Kilsyth to the league’s best regular season record. A rare combination of brute force and finesse down low, Beadle finished second in the league in scoring (21.6ppg), first in free throw percentage (85.8%), eighth in field goal percentage (51.1%), tenth in rebounding (9.4rpg), and first in total offensive rebounds (81). Beadle recorded 11 double-doubles over the final 16 games of the season, with her play leading the Lady Cobras to an 18-4 regular season mark.

“I’m really excited to be coming back to Australia and to be able to play with Kilsyth again,” Beadle said. “My first year over here was amazing and I’m looking forward to being back with my teammates and playing for Sam (Woosnam) and Tony (Smyth).”

Naturally, Lady Cobras coach Sam Woosnam is thrilled to be able to retain the league’s top performer during 2017, and Woosnam believes that with a year of experience under her belt, Beadle is set for an even bigger campaign in 2018.

“She had an outstanding first SEABL season and we relied on her to carry the majority of our scoring load last season. I expect more from Angela in her second season, and now that she knows the league and is more comfortable, I have no doubt she will have another dominant year.”

With Beadle back on board alongside veteran Sarah Parsons and former All-SEABL import Jasmine Gill, the Lady Cobras have the makings of a lethal frontcourt for the season ahead. And with Beadle falling agonisingly short of a berth in the SEABL championship, the Texas native shares a common goal with Parsons and Gill heading into 2018.

“We didn’t get the results we wanted last year and that left a bitter taste in my mouth, so I’m ready to lock in and work harder in order to get that SEABL championship.” Beadle said.

Beadle has just completed a short term contract with Turkish League team Elazig Il Ozel Idare, where she continued her stellar play by averaging 21.0 points – on 65.4% shooting – to go along with 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She will re-join the Lady Cobras in early 2018 as the team gears up for the new SEABL season, which is set to tip-off in early-April.
