Business and Basketball planning for post COVID-19
Like everyone, we are interpreting the information communicated from government and making contingency plans to enable the return of our basketball competitions as quickly and safely as possible. While Kilsyth Basketball is diverse and broad in our operations, our number one priority of our ‘Return to Play’ plan is focus on our domestic programs and our junior representative players competing in the VJBL.
We have been liaising closely with Basketball Victoria, our governing body, to ensure we have access to government and health information which will be implemented into our Return to Play plan. While return dates cannot be confirmed, the framework for our Return to Play plan is as follows:
Once a clear return to play date has been set by Government and Basketball Victoria, we will begin to open our team entries into Play HQ – Basketball Victoria’s new registration system.
Kilsyth Basketball will give all Clubs four (4) weeks’ notice to prepare for the resumption of play
Plan A: Approval to return to play – Mid July (Junior Domestic)
Winter 2020 season to commence on 18th July 2020; final round 10th October, 2020. Semi Finals and Grand Finals to follow.
Summer 20/21 season to commence on 7th November, 2020; final round 20th March 2020. Semi Finals and Grand Finals to follow.
Plan B: Approval to return to play – Mid August (Junior Domestic)
Winter season cancelled
Summer 20/21 to commence in mid-August, 2020; season completion early April, 2021.
There will be no penalties (forfeits or financial) imposed for clubs regarding fill-ins or team withdrawals due to lack of players (within reasonable circumstances).
This plan remains a framework and is subject to change as we learn more about the conditions and requirements on which ‘social distanced’ community sport may need to operate under.
While it is not possible to confirm exact dates at which the plan will be enacted, we will keep you up to date as more information comes to light and will provide another update during the week of May 11 in line with government communications.
