Auryn Macmillan will spread his wings this summer after it was announced yesterday that he has officially become a member of the Wollongong Hawks roster for the 2012/13 iiNet NBL Championship Season.

The 25 year-old from Christmas Hills is Kilsyth Basketball born and bred, beginning his junior career with the Eastern Eagles Basketball Club. He worked his way through the ranks to the Junior Cobras and has now spent the last three seasons on the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras SEABL team, averaging 13 points and 7.8 rebounds in 2012.

Auryn attended Gardner-Webb University in the U.S. from 2006-2010, and also spent a summer season in Germany playing in the ProB League for Langen Giraffes.

Auryn had two visits up to Wollongong in the past two months for trials and showed a great attitude, putting in the hard work during practices. It is safe to say Auryn is relishing this chance to advance his career.

“This is a real exciting opportunity and one that I have been working towards for a couple of years now. I just cannot wait to pull on my new Wollongong jersey and play some ball!”

He will add extra presence to the Hawks frontcourt joining Oscar Forman, Larry Davidson and Dave Gruber.

MacMillan will suit up for the Hawks against the Sydney Kings tonight for a preseason game in Terrigal and will travel back to Melbourne next week to take on the Melbourne Tigers in front of his home crowd at the Kilsyth Sports Centre on Friday 31 August.

As for playing on Hugh McMenamin Court before spending the next seven months in Wollongong, Auryn couldn’t be happier;

“It’s going to be great to play at this level in front of my home crowd. They are always so vocal and I’m bound to swing a few supporters Wollongong’s way!”

“I have a few friends and family coming to support me; it will be great to share this moment with the people who have helped me get to this level.”

Ticket Prices: Family (two adult, two children) $25; Adult $10 and Children (12 and under) $5.

We urge all the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras fans to get down to the Kilsyth Sports Centre Friday 31 August to see Auryn in action against the Melbourne Tigers. Tickets are available at the Kilsyth Basketball front office (03 9728 1033) during business hours.
