BIG V YL MEN

Youth Men are one year into a development plan which has yielded an impressive first up season in 2007 and an Under 20 VJBL state title.  Coach Rod Popp went down the youth track in 2007 and has seen consistent improvement in the teams results.  Many of the 2007 YL team played on the Under 20 side who were able to defeat the Melbourne Tigers to take out the State Championship.  Now Coach Popp will be looking for some of the same success in YL.  The team has matured over the past year but will be joined by some up and coming stars as they look to consolidate on 2007.  Scott Dixon and Joel Naburgs will look to lead the team but with a strong supporting cast they should figure prominently in finals action.  After going 3-1 during the Frankston tournament Coach Popp will be looking for another impressive performance against Knox on Sunday.

BIG V YL WOMEN

Youth Women begin their 2008 campaign as one of the competitions most youthful teams.  Former WNBL Assistant, SEABL and Youth League Coach Ed Dunstan returns to the Senior Program after a two year break and has been hard at work to prepare the group. With the majority of the team also playing juniors it will be a important juggling act for Dunstan to prepare his team each week.  The team participated in the Frankston Pre-Season Tournament going 2-2 over the weekend and is looking forward to improving on the results of the past few years.  16 year old point guard Jordy O’Shea will be a key to the teams success, after missing selection in the final 10 for the Under 16 Vic Metro side in 2007 Jordy has gone away and worked on her game.  She has stepped into the YL side as their most important player and leader and will run the offence for Dunstan.  A lot of the teams success for ride on the back of Jordy’s ability to carry the team and she has the ability to take this team places over the next fews years.
