Phil Munday’s Kilsyth Cobras Brad Heywood and Jack Perry have both been selected in the School Sports Victoria Boys 12 and Under Basketball State Team.

Brad hails from Chirnside Park and is in Grade Six at Yarra Road Primary School; a very keen Basketballer he currently plays in three different teams, Grade Six Yarra Road Panthers in Kilsyth Basketball’s Afterschool Competition; Maroondah Magic U13A in Kilsyth Basketball’s Junior Domestic Competition as well as playing representative level basketball for the Kilsyth Cobras in the U14.3 Boys.

Brad can’t wait to represent his State come the Championships in August, “I love basketball, so it means a lot to play for Victoria. Ever since I heard about the Victorian State team I wanted to be part of it. I set myself a goal to work really hard to achieve it. I think it’s been my best achievement so far and I really hope there are lots more”.

Jack on the other hand hails from Croydon Hills and is in Grade Five at Croydon Hills Primary School and because Jack is bottom age it means he can try out for the team again in 2013. Jack currently plays for Maroondah Magic U13A Reserve in Kilsyth Basketballs Junior Domestic Competition and he also plays representative Basketball for the Kilsyth Cobras in the Under 12.1 Boys (who recently collected the Bronze Medal at the National Classic).

Jack is over the moon about making the team “It’s awesome, the best thing that has ever happened to me. It’s been great fun so far with all the try-outs and training and I cannot wait until I get my uniform and play in the tournament and hopefully win Gold”.

Kilsyth Basketball’s Director of Basketball Operations Rod Popp added “We are really proud of the boy’s efforts and we are sure they will represent the club well”.

After four months of tryouts both boys were selected from over 3,000 Primary and Secondary School students in the 10 man squad. They will compete at the 2012 School Sports Australia Basketball Championships which are being held at Dandenong Basketball Stadium from 11 August til 17 August 2012.

Kilsyth Basketball congratulates Brad and Jack on their fantastic achievement and wishes them and their teammates all the best for the Championships.
