The NBL1 Cobra Women have added veteran point guard Bree Whatman for the 2021 season.

Whatman joins the Cobras following an impressive 2019 NBL1 campaign with Knox, where she ranked amongst the league leaders in assists (4.5apg), while also averaging just under 11 points per contest. Her solid point guard play saw her lead the Raiders – along with new Cobras teammate Lauren Scherf – to a 14-6 record and postseason berth.

Prior to her time at Knox, Whatman enjoyed an overwhelmingly successful stint with the Dandenong Rangers, playing a key part in a remarkable four SEABL championships, including two over the Cobras in 2015 and 2016. Whatman has also spent time within the Rangers WNBL program and a year in the collegiate system with South Dakota State in 2014.

Cobras head coach, Hannah Lowe, believes Whatman’s winning pedigree, ability to distribute at a high level and deep three point range – she drained 1.5 triples per contest in 2019 at a respectable 36 percent – are set to provide a big punch to the new-look Cobras in 2021.

‘I’m excited to have Bree signed up at Kilsyth for 2021,” Lowe said.

“She brings great leadership and experience, and I look forward to her making her mark this season as both a facilitator and scorer.”
