Kilsyth Basketball is excited to announce that its very own Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobra Carley Mijovic has been selected to represent Australia at the World Championships in July this year. Carley will become one of a small group of players to represent Australia in three separate Junior World Championship events when she heads to Lithuania with the Under 19 Gems. Carley has previously been part of the Under 17 (2010) and Under 19 (2011) teams despite being well short of the maximum allowable age limit on both occasions.

Carley who joined Kilsyth Basketball this year, has worked hard to receive this esteemed honour, with the selection processes including several camps over the past two years, as well as two recent tours. The tours included a nine game series in China as well as two tournaments in France.

On receiving the news of her selection, Carley said that she was “very excited and honoured to represent my country at another world championship. The team is looking very good and I am looking forward to visiting another two new countries”.

Carley acknowledged that the team will face some challenges, in particular getting their bodies’ right after the long trip. “We will not have many supporters going for us” said Carley “so we are going to have to stick closely together as a team”.

Carley believes that her experiences at the World Championships will have a positive impact on herself and the Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras, as it will provide Carley with more international experience which she can bring back and share with the team.

Kilsyth Basketball wishes Carley and the Under 19 Gems the best of luck at this event. We look forward to you bringing back gold!
