The Club Kilsyth Cobras and the Club Ringwood Kilsyth Lady Cobras will open their 2012 D-League Championship campaign this Saturday night (March 17th) in a double header here at the Kilsyth Sports Centre.

The new Basketball Victoria Development League season gets underway for Kilsyth this Saturday night when they meet the Sandringham Sabres on the Hugh McMenamin Court. The Sandringham Lady Sabres finished the 2011 D-League season with just one win from the 21 games played, finishing bottom of the table. However, last season the Club Ringwood Lady Cobras fell painfully short of playoffs basketball with a record of 12 – 9 seeing them 5th overall in the League.

With several new arrivals from the Kilsyth juniors along with some familiar faces, the team will be looking towards its senior members to lead and educate the young talent coming through the grass roots. The Club Ringwood Lady Cobras will look at going one better in the 2012 D-League Season with the campaign to finals berth starting this weekend in the first matchup of the season.

The action continues on Saturday night after the women’s match up when the Club Kilsyth Cobras will take on the Sandringham Sabres. The Sabres finished the 2011 season out of finals contention with a record of 10 – 11 placing them 6th on the table on percentage.

In the 2011 season the third place Club Kilsyth Cobras were dealt a tough loss at the hands of Nunawading in the Semi-Finals, and Coach Popp will be looking to go one better in 2012 looking for a spot in the elusive Championship game.

The Club Kilsyth Cobras retains most of its young 2011 crop of players, and adds some new Kilsyth Juniors who are looking at taking the next step in their basketball careers this weekend. Needless to say every journey has a beginning and for the Club Kilsyth Cobras the first steps will be taken on Saturday night when they match up in the club’s first double header of the 2012 season.

The Club Ringwood Lady Cobras will tip off Saturday 17th March at 6.15pm and the Club Kilsyth Cobras at 8.15pm.
