The NBL1 Cobra Men have added some front court muscle, signing centre Jack Oćwieja for the 2021 season.

Oćwieja joins the Cobras for his debut season in the NBL1, having previously played in Europe, and the QBL and Big-V competitions. A graduate of NCAA Division 1 program, Grambling State University, Oćwieja has since enjoyed success in England, Italy, Germany, and most recently in the Big-V with the Southern Peninsula, where he averaged over 10 points and seven rebounds per game for the Sharks in 2019.

“I’m stoked to be a part of a club as prestigious as Kilsyth,” Oćwieja said.

“Anyone who’s played basketball in Victoria has the utmost respect Kilsyth, so it’s a great honour to be able to lace them up with some big names not just locally, but nationally. I look forward to getting immersed in the new group and the well established Cobra culture.”

Cobras head coach, Pete Godfrey, is excited to have the 6’11 pivot on board for the 2021 season, with Oćwieja forming a strong front court 1-2 punch with veteran big, Tim Lang.

‘The hoop gods have a way of figuring things out sometimes,” Godfrey said.

“As we were assembling the 2020 roster Jack just happened to reach out on a day when another prospect had decided to head in a different direction. After a couple of conversations and training sessions with the group, Jack and I figured out pretty quick that Kilsyth was a good fit for him, which has carried forward into the 2021 pre-season.”

“I’m looking forward to the place that Jack will command in the League as the season gets rolling, and he presents us with some nice options and possibilities playing alongside Tim Lang also.”

Oćwieja and the Cobras will make their 2021 regular season debut at home on Saturday night when they play host to the Waverley Falcons. Tickets are on sale now, with Kids tickets free for the Cobras opener.
