The NBL1 Cobra Women have added a key piece to their frontcourt, signing import forward, Evelyn Adebayo for the 2022 season.

A native of London, England, Adebayo boasts an impressive collegiate resume, having starred at Murray State before ending her college career with the powerhouse UConn Huskies. The physical 6’2 forward brings a unique blend of interior scoring, rebounding, perimeter shooting and an ability to create off the bounce, giving the Cobras terrific frontcourt versatility.

Adebayo’s basketball career has had more twists and turns than most. After growing up in London, where she played for various clubs and represented Great Britain in the European Championships, Adebayo spent two seasons at Gardner-Webb before transferring to Murray State. In her lone season at Murray State, Adebayo was a standout for the Racers, averaging team bests of 18.2 points and 11.4 rebounds per game – along with a program single-season record 19 double-doubles – en-route to earning a First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference and All-Newcomer selection. Adebayo then joined UConn as a graduate transfer, averaging 7 minutes per contest for a Huskies team destined for yet another NCAA championship prior to the season cancellation due to Covid.

A former member of the Great Britain U20 national team, Adebayo has since enjoyed a successful post-college stint in Europe, most recently playing for Energa Torun in the Basket Liga Kobiet (Polish league). Over her final four games in Poland, Adebayo was in impressive form, closing the season by averaging 17.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game.

Joining the Cobras with momentum from a strong Europe campaign, Cobras head coach, Hannah Lowe, expects Adebayo to add a significant boost the Kilsyth’s young, talented frontcourt.

“Evelyn joins us after a stint in Europe, and prior to that, a decorated college career at Murray State and UConn,” Lowe said.

“I am excited for the energy Evelyn will bring and the fire that will light for us in the rebounding column amongst other areas.”

The Cobras tip-off their 2022 campaign this week, opening on the road against Ringwood on Thursday night before making their home debut against the rival Knox Raiders on Saturday.
