Coach Report: David Newton

The U16-2 Girls travelled to Adelaide for the Easter Classic tournament, it was the fourth tournament for the team since November.  Some were optimistic with playing and distances travelled, however the coach was expecting the team to bond.  Everyone got to the accommodation on Thursday afternoon ready for our first game on Friday. In our pool were arch rivals Waverley, Norwood 1, Forestville, North Harbour (New Zealand) and Mckinnon.  The Cobras won all 5 round games topping their pool, the game against Forestville was a 1pt ball game with young Courtney scoring the last 7pts including the winning free throw.  The girls were going into the finals playing Blackburn. Blackburn are in the same division back in Melbourne, the Cobras got up by 3 pts to go in to the grand final against Waverley who beat Nunawading 3.  Kilsyth won the final 29~27 in overtime. It was a very good weekend for the team as they became one unit.  The girls worked very hard on floor and relaxed together away from the court.  Each player stepped up at different time and the team didn’t have to rely on 1 or 2 to get the job done.  The girls played together and it showed by winning 3 out of 7 games by less than 3 pts.
