CLARION, Pennsylvania – Courtney Healy (Kilsyth, Victoria) has signed with NCAA DII, Clarion University. Healy, currently representing the Kilsyth Cobras in the Big V Youth Division, earned game MVP honors for her Round 6 performance over the Melbourne Tigers. Her 20 point outing helped Kilsyth take out the Tigers by a 24-point margin.

Healy will come into the 2008-09 collegiate season as a freshman with four years of eligiblity.

“We are very excited about her coming to our school and I know she is excited as well,” says Clarion Head Coach, Margaret “Gie” Parsons.

Parsons will enter her 20th season at the helm for Clarion, where she sports a 288-238 record. During her tenure she has guided the Eagles to 6 NCAA DII and 10 PSAC Playoff appearances, including two “Elite 8” trips in 1991 and 1994.

Clarion graduates four seniors, including school assists leader Ashley Grimm at the point. Last season the Eagles went 18-9 overall, including 8-4 in conference play and a trip to the PSAC playoffs. Parsons was named PSAC West Coach of the Year.

Coach Parsons can certainly relate to Healy’s upcoming adventure in the States. Nearly 33 years ago, Parsons traveled to Australia where she taught and coached at Doveton Technical School (1975-1977). She, along with her brother (Cliff Parsons) and former husband (Posey Rhoads) all played for Dandenong. Gie played under coach Charley Wilson, while Tony Gaze was fronting the men’s side. From 1977-1980 she taught and coached in Napier, New Zealand. In New Zealand she started for championship club teams from 1977-1979. In 1998 she flew to Portland, Oregon to coach her former Kiwi team in the Masters.

From everyone at Kilsyth, we wish Courtney all the best with her scholarship and we will keep track of her games when the season begins in November.
