It was an amazing night for Kilsyth Basketball on April 30, as the Association took out many of the top awards at the 2013 Basketball Victoria Annual Awards Dinner.

To start off the evening, Kilsyth Basketball was awarded ‘Largest Association of the Year’ for 2012. Kilsyth Basketball has been recognised as the largest Basketball Association in Victoria in fourteen of the last 17 years, an awesome achievement. The award is based on the Association’s total membership numbers.

Delighted to be the biggest, we were equally thrilled to be recognised as the best, when we were announced as the ‘Basketball Association of the Year’ for 2012. This award recognises an outstanding Association that experienced significant achievements in 2012 including; achievements such as membership and participation growth, new program development, community involvement, venue development, strategic planning and championship results among other achievements.

Next up was the announcement of ‘Elite Male Coach of the Year’, for which SEABL Men’s Head Coach Grant Wallace was nominated. To our delight Grant was honoured with this prestigious award, a fitting tribute for a Senior Coach who is now is his tenth year of SEABL coaching at Kilsyth Basketball. Grant has also completed three years coaching the Under 20 Victorian Men’s State Team, who have taken out gold the past three years in a row.

Prue Green was the next Kilsyth Basketball representative to be honoured, receiving the ‘Volunteer of the Year – Disability Programs Award’. Prue received this award due to the valuable time she has dedicated to organising and administering basketball clinics for intellectually disabled students from Croydon Development School for the past four years; working with both junior and senior students on a term by term basis.

Finally the Association had five of our long serving volunteers recognised with Basketball Victoria Service Awards. Barry Spicer, Lynda Spicer and Prue Green were all awarded Bronze Service Awards for their 15 year commitment to the sport. Helen Harris was awarded a Silver Service Award for her 25 years of support to Kilsyth Basketball, and Margaret DeGoumois was awarded a Gold Service Award for her amazing 35 years of dedicated work with the Association.

Overall the 2013 Basketball Victoria Awards were a fantastic recognition all of the hard work that our members, volunteers, staff and Board have put into making Kilsyth Basketball the fantastic Association that it is today.

We look forward to continuing our success throughout 2013, to ensure that Kilsyth Basketball remains the biggest and the best Association well into the future.
