Today the Wollongong NRE Hawks have bolstered their roster for the 2012/13 NBL Season with the addition of forward/centre Auryn MacMillan.

The 25 year old from Melbourne has played the past three SEABL seasons with the Kilsyth Cobras, recently averaging 13 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in 2012. Auryn has also played professionally in Germany.

The relatively unknown Australian, spent his college career at Gardner-Webb University from 2006-2010. Listed at 203cm and 107kg, MacMillan will join the front line of Oscar Forman, Larry Davidson and Dave Gruber.

Auryn MacMillan has had two visits to the club in the past two months for trials and has shown a great attitude to putting in the hard work on the practice court.

“Auryn is a hard worker, has competed well in practice while he has been here and shown a great attitude, he’s the type of player that will really suit our culture here in Wollongong.”Head Coach Gordie McLeod said.

“He has shown a willingness to learn and develop as a player which is a positive sign for any incoming player into the NBL. He’ll provide some great energy on both ends of the floor and will put the effort in.” He added.

MacMillan will suit up for the Hawks against the Sydney Kings Friday night in Terrigal and will now remain with the squad in Wollongong. “This is a really good opportunity for me to remain in Australia and compete against the best player’s day in and day out. I’ve really enjoyed trialling with the club the past two months and I’m looking forward to being with the group this season.” Auryn MacMillan said.

“The players, coaching staff and management have been very welcoming and I’m looking forward to being part of a club that has a great culture and so much history.”

“I’m looking forward to develop my game here under Gordie and the coaching staff, work hard and give everything I can on the court when the opportunity arises.” He added.

Auryn’s addition comes after the Hawks announced the first import of 2012/13 in Lance Hurdle, these two will join the existing group of Glen Saville, Oscar Forman, Larry Davidson, Rhys Martin, Dave Gruber, Dan Jackson, Tyson Demos & Tim Coenraad.
