Parsons wins Golden Hands & Defensive Player Awards

Kilsyth Lady Cobras SARAH PARSONS have been named the inaugural SEABL Defensive Player of the Year.

Sarah Parsons has played the entire season as an undersized forward, giving up centimetres to opponents’ on a weekly basis, but continues to torment her opposition with her tenacious defence. Parsons finished second in steals with 2.8 per game and was also ranked ninth (6.2 per game) in defensive rebounds. Sarah received 11 votes for the season to win the award ahead of NW Tasmania Thunders’ Emily Fryters and Ballarat Lady Miners Lynly Doherty.

After winning the Australian Youth Player award in season 2007, Sarah has improved her game further this year and helped her team finish fourth with a 15-9 regular season record. Parsons showed her defensive skills last week in the SEABL first semi final, containing Launceston Import Crista Hays to 12pts and 7rebs, all well below her regular season average.
