U12-1 Boys
The Kilsyth Cobras 12:1 Boys coached by Mal Allison and Assisted by Glen Ghosn went into the Under 12 National Classic winning the previous five games straight, making it 6 wins and 3 loses for the season. The ten boys consisting of Tom, Jasper, Mitchell, Sebastian, Liam, Archer, Peter, Joel, Jordan and Declan were looking forward to a big weekend of basketball.
The 12:1 boys started the tournament strong, winning both games on Saturday against Nunawading and Woodville. We played Bendigo on Sunday morning and went down by 9 points. We finished second in our pool with 2 wins and 1 loss, making us play Hawthorn in the Quarter Final, which made the 12:1 Kilsyth boys the top 8 at the Classic Tournament. Unfortunately the boys went down to a very strong team.
We played our Semi Final on Sunday night against Sturt. The boys played well and all ten of them put in 100% effort allowing us to win the game. Due to our win, we played off for 5th spot Monday morning.
The boys brought a positive attitude to the game on Monday morning, knowing we were playing Bendigo who beat us the previous day. The boys were exceptional and played 28 minutes of great basketball, allowing us to beat Bendigo by 16 points. This win allowed us to finish 5th place at the National Junior Classic.
Thank you to our Team Manager Allison Medson for all her efforts organising the tournament and for the support and encouragement from our 12:1 parents. Congratulations to all of the ten boys who were involved in this tournament. Their hard work, commitment and dedication to the team paid off.
Michelle Letts – Assistant Coach.
U12-2 Boys
Over the long weekend the 12.2 boys participated in the nunawading spectres queen’s birthday tournament, the boys started of strong beating geelong supercats 12.2’s 37-27, and continued to show great form beating nunawading spectres 12.2’s 22-52, however starting off with great form the boys fell short against dandenong 12.3’s losing 30-28 in a monster 2nd half come back. After a well deserved night off the boys were ready for action on sunday getting ready to get back on top how ever we lost to the southern mavericks by 7 points after trying very hard. Then for a chance at making the finals we had to get a win over melbourne tigers 12.1’s, the boys fell short by 11 points which the boys became very heart broken about, but overall the boys played well with a lot of determination and heart and are now looking forward to finishing the regular season off nice and strong after learning alot over the tournament.

14–1 Girls
The girls began the tournament on fire!! We won all three games on Saturday quite convincingly by 20 points each. We beat Eltham 2, Nunawading 2 and the Central District Lions (Adelaide). On Sunday we came up against some tough opposition but the girls continued to play with the same great intensity. We lost all three games on Sunday but by no more than ten points in each game, and only lost our third game by two points to Nunawading 1. We then went on to play in the semi final that night against Diamond Valley 1 and unfortunately lost this game. However, the girls worked hard all weekend and never gave up when it became tough. Well done girls on a fantastic weekend, lets take the intensity and aggression into the second half our season now.

14-4 Girls
Another great tournament from our fantastic team. We have been involved in 3 tournaments and have made 3 grand finals. Unfortunately we didn’t bring home a win this time losing by 3 points in a very tight game. The girls went from strength to strength and really pulled together and worked so well as a team. They played a total of 8 games with lots of late nights and early mornings. Each girl put in their very best and fought hard and we as parents are so proud of them all. Thanks again to our wonderful coach Dave and his gorgeous side kick Sharni. We couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks again to the lovely Burgess family who hosted us all again with a BBQ after grand final.
14-3 Boys
Our team had a fun weekend of basketball at the Nunawading Tournament with many great games. We were undefeated all weekend and unfortunately went down in the Preliminary Final by 2 points.
A big thank you to our coach Jamie Wanders, Assistant Coach Nathan Reed and all the parents and friends for their fantastic support over the weekend.

U16-2 Girls
The 16-2 Girls were pumped for the tournament and coming off a great close win from their Friday night game they had high hopes for the tournament.
Our 1st game was against Diamond Valley and after a rocky start we were there to play. Close game all the way to the end and we won 25-21. Our 2nd game was against Sherbrooke, who we played at the start of the season and drew with, so we were hoping to rectify that and have a win but unfortunately the girls just couldn’t get it together. Sherbrooke out played us and came away with another win 19-26.
With an attitude change for our 3rd game (and after an early dinner and a show at the Hallam Hotel– thanks to Jaymee and Olly) we were set to play Bendigo. Our girls came out firing and we took the win 31-28. Everyone was really high from that close win, so it was home to bed and rest up for another 3 games on Sunday.
Sunday morning saw us back at Dandenong for our 4th game against Norths Black Bears and our girls still had their high from the previous night and we had a great game and win 44-22. After a few hours rest we were off to the State Centre to play Auckland. Our girls were a little shaken by the size of these girls but were here to play. It was on from the start and got a little physical towards the end but unfortunately we went down by 1 point! Losing 31-32 in the last few seconds.
Going into our last game, we knew we could still make finals if we beat Coburg by a huge margin so the girls came out firing from the start. Unfortunately Coburg didn’t know what had hit them and our girls played a brilliant game. We came away with the win 68-11. Now just to wait for the final scores of the other games – but unfortunately the teams that needed to lose won their games so we had finished 4th in our pool, just not enough to go onto the finals.
Great weekend and our girls played really well.
Thanks to all the parents for the running round and to Coach’s Dee and Britt for their time and coaching our girls.

16-3 Girls
The 16.3 Girls were full of energy and hit the court running against a Melbourne Tigers team on Saturday morning. They came away with an impressive 26 point victory, and were rearing to face their next opponent, the North Adelaide Rockets. This proved more of a challenge for the girls, with our lack of height proving the difference, and finishing 7 points behind the Rockets. We regathered ourselves for the afternoon, before preparing for another team from across the border, the Norwood Flames, and after an exciting 40 mins of basketball, came away with a 1 point win.
Sunday saw us on the court at 8am against the Ringwood Hawks, but our girls didn’t seem to start to play until the second half. We outscored them in the second half, but too little too late, coming away with a 12 point loss. Our 5th game saw us up against a VERY skilled unit from Warragul…they dominated us with aggression, and some excellent skills to lead us by 28 points at the end. Our last game was against the Waverley Falcons, and the coach decided to run with some "different" combinations for a change on the court…the girls had lots of fun, and despite one of the girls sporting a bruised butt from taking a huge charge, we came away with a 15 point win.
So, all up, we had 3 wins, 3 losses and finished 5th on the ladder, but had a lot of fun getting there. Thanks to all the parents and supporters, the coaching staff and team manager, and of course the players! Go Cobras!
U18-3 Boys
We had a great tournament was undefeated the whole weekend, the boys won their first two games quiet comfortably but we had a challenge on Saturday night against Southern Tigers 2 got over the line by 2 points .Sunday we also had two easy wins but knew finals are a different story, our first final started off a bit shaky with the boys missing easy shots and unforced turnovers but to their credit they won by 13 points, so going into the grand final they were focused on the game from the start we were playing South Adelaide panthers which had great 3 point shooters so the first half there was only 2 points in it, lead changing all the time, both teams were exchanging 3 point shoots each time they both went down the court, after half time cobras slowly increased their lead and won by 22 points ,it was a great boost to the boys confidence and they are looking ahead to the rest of the season. MVP for the game was Ben Bingley with his great shooting.
