Playing as a member of Kilsyth Basketball for the first time, the Powered by AGL Cobras have made a bold statement to the rest of the league, winning their first eight games of the season to sit atop the league standings after two rounds of play.

“With a new team name and new colours, it was great to take the court in the red and black for the Kilsyth Cobras,” head coach Ben Hodgens said.

“The players took this to heart and have started the 2015 WNWBL season with a strong statement.”

Leading the way for the Cobras early on has been the tandem of Leanne Del Toso and Alice Hammond, with the duo keying the Cobras 8-0 start. Del Toso currently ranks second in the WNWBL in scoring (22.6ppg) and first in free throw percentage (75%), while Hammond sits fourth in rebounding (11.4rpg) in addition to scoring 14 points per contest.

“Leanne has been a stand-out player in all games with her unstoppable scoring prowess, while Alice has stepped up considerably at both ends of the court, even recording double-doubles before half time in two games,” Hodgens said.

Currently sitting three games clear of the second placed Be Active Western Stars, the Cobras will bring their league-best record into town for Round 3, which runs from Friday June 12 to Sunday June 14 at the Kilsyth Sports Centre.
