SEABL D LEAGUE MVP WINNERS

With the SEABL D-League Grand Finals to be played this weekend, the highest individual awards have been handed out to the best players of the 2011 season. In the men’s competition, Mark Breda from the Nunawading Spectres has won the Most Valuable Player award while from the women, Sam Drescher of the Kilsyth Lady Cobras has won the accolade.

In her first year at SEABL D-League level, Drescher has given the competition an example of the quality player she will be with some spectacular performances this year. During the regular season, Drescher sat third overall for average points per game with 14.2 and average rebounds per game with 11.2, also leading all players from the Lady Cobras. She was the only woman in the league to average a double-double and at just 19 years old has a lot of success ahead of her. Drescher shot 43% from the field as well as 36% from the three-point line and received a Player of the Month award in April, averaging 15.3 points. She recorded six games with 20+ points, including a personal best against Ballarat when she had 25 points and 20 rebounds. Although Kilsyth fell a game short of the playoffs, Drescher should have no trouble reaching the finals in years to come.
