It was a great weekend all round for our Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras with both teams playing back to back games and both teams coming away with two wins each.

On Saturday night our Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras went on the road to play Ballarat. In our Ladies game it was great to see Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras Captain Chantella Perera take to the floor in dynamite fashion for her first game in the SEABL season. The girls played a good game in a well matched contest winning three out of four quarters to take the game 63 – 58.

In our Men’s first game the Swinburne Cobras debuted Joel Naburgs who has recently re-joined his Kilsyth Basketball family after a successful College Basketball career with Stetson University in Florida.

The Ballarat Miners were severely undermanned heading into the game against the Swinburne Cobras, and it showed before too long. Our Cobras won the first two quarters 39-19, including a 20-4 second term, and were never troubled after that. They wiped the glass clean, finishing up 16 in rebounds, and they kept Ballarat to a modest 33% from the field. Our Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras had nine scorers led by Tiri Masunda with 26 points and Tim Lang with 14.

Our Swinburne Lady Cobras continued to climb the South conference ladder in their second game against Brisbane, (the girls now with five wins from their last six games). Our Lady Cobras were 12 points up at the half, and although the Lady Spartans clawed the margin back to only trail by 6, our girls managed to keep them at arm’s length and ease their way to a comfortable win. Brisbane had no answer for Carly Mijovic who finished with 18 points.

In our Cobras second game of the round Brisbane battled hard to stay in touch with our boys at home, but couldn’t manage to get up against our improving Men’s team in the final leg of their triple-header. The Spartans held a 1-point lead at half time, but were overrun 40-27 in quarters three and four. EJ Kusnyer was a game standout with 19 points, equally impressive were Tim Lang and Auryn Macmillan with a combined 30 points and 19 rebounds.

IN ROUND 14 OUR SWINBURNE COBRAS WILL HEAD TO ALBURY TO TAKE ON ALBURY/WODONGA BANDITS (JUNE 29) LADIES TIP OFF IS AT 6.00PM WITH MEN’S AT 8.00PM.
