This Saturday night the Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras (5-1) travel to Dandenong Stadium to tackle the 2010 SEABL champions, the Dandenong Lady Rangers (6-0).
So far in Season 2011 the Lady Rangers have not lost a match winning a tight contest by two points last weekend against Knox, whereas the only game that the Swinburne Lady Cobras have lost thus far was in round one against Knox. The form of both sides means that the crowd will be treated to an enthralling contest where either side has the talent and ability to overcome the other.
A win would mean a lot more for the Swinburne Lady Cobras as it would confirm to the rest of the competition that they are serious and need to be considered as a true contender along with Dandenong and Knox; it would also mean that the rest of the competition can see the Lady Rangers as fallible.
In their two point win against Know last week Dandenong had an even spread of scorers with six players reaching double figures, Steph Cumming was the standout with 20 points and five rebounds, with ex-Cobra Clare Papvas as damaging with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Kilsyth were good without being great against Hobart last Saturday in their 63-49 win. Head Coach Cheryl Chambers was happy with the win but knows it will take a lot more hustle from her team if they are to knock of top of the ladder Dandenong. Eva Afeaki was the best of the Swinburne Lady Cobras against Hobart with 14 points and 14 rebounds; her attack on the ball is fantastic to watch and will need to produce the same kind of performance if Kilsyth are to come away with the win.
Abby Bishop (13pts, 8rbds), Hayley Moffatt (12pts) and Gemma Kerr (10pts) were the other solid performers and have to produce similar efforts come 5pm this Saturday night. There will be a large contingent of Kilsyth supporters travelling to Dandenong who can expect to see what should be one of the games of the year.
The Swinburne Lady Cobras tip off against the Dandenong Lady Rangers at 5:00pm Saturday May 21 at Dandenong Basketball Stadium.
