The Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras grabbed an impressive six point victory over the highly fancied Knox Raiders last Saturday when they travelled down to the State Basketball Centre for the first Semi-Final of the 2012 SEABL Playoffs.

Going into the game with a four-game pre-playoff win streak, the Swinburne Lady Cobras wanted to continue their great form against the 24-2 Knox Raiders. The Swinburne Lady Cobras started the contest with vigour as veteran Gemma Kerr showed her experience, leading her team with 11 points in the first half and earning the Swinburne Lady Cobras a four point lead at the major break 37 – 33.

The third quarter of play was spent with the two sides trading baskets and the Swinburne Lady Cobras holding onto their six-point lead. The Swinburne Lady Cobras made the most of their defensive efforts, grabbing 11 points from turnovers throughout the game.

Knowing that they would advance directly to a home Conference Grand Final with a win, the Swinburne Lady Cobras lifted their intensity and managed to stretch their fourth quarter lead to ten with around four minutes remaining. The Raiders tried their best to fight back and defend home court, but the Swinburne Lady Cobras had an answer for everything that was thrown at them, advancing themselves through to the Conference Grand Final with a 66 – 60 victory!

Centre Kristen Barnes led all scorers for the game with 18-points, whilst also managing nine rebounds, followed closely by Hayley Moffatt (15 points, 9 rebounds) and Gemma Kerr (11 points, 4 assists) in the win over the Raiders.
