Basketball Australia’s prestigious Under 16 Australian Junior Championships begin this Saturday July 9 at Kilsyth Sports Centre, with both the Men’s and Women’s Vic Metro teams looking at taking out the gold on home soil.

The Men’s team look at bringing the Championship back to Victoria after New South Wales Metro took the trophy up north in 2010. The U16 Vic Metro men’s team has dominated the championships in recent history, winning the gold seven (7) times since 2000. The men will kick off their championship campaign at 7:00pm Saturday July 9 on the Hugh McMenamin Court, after the opening ceremony, against the New Zealand team.

With recent domination of the U16 Australian Junior Championship, the women’s team look at winning their 12th straight gold at this event. Since 2000 the girl’s team has not let the Championship leave the State and look to keep it that way by winning again on home soil. The women’s campaign begins at 3:00pm Saturday July 9 on Court 6 at Kilsyth Sports Centre against the Queensland North women’s team.

The 2011 U16 Australian Junior Championships will be held at Kilsyth Sports Centre on the week beginning Saturday July 9, with the Championship Games being held on Saturday July 16, with game schedules available at http://www.basketball.net.au/index.php?id=418.
