Last night Kilsyth Basketball in collaboration with Yarra Ranges Council hosted a ‘Women in Leadership’ event that focused on finding the balance. Our guest speaker was elite Netballer Sharelle McMahon, who debuted in the Australian Under-21 netball team in 1996, and has gone on to play for Australia over 100 times as well as Captain Australia and win three Commonwealth Games medals.

Sharelle spoke wonderfully about the struggle that all women face in having to juggle the many hats they wear, whether it be that of partner, mother, employee, employer or community leader. She also shared with us some wonderful anecdotes about her time as Australian Diamonds captain and gave insights into her thoughts and beliefs surrounding women in leadership.

Sharelle was joined by a fantastic panel of local leaders including Yarra Ranges Councillors Maria McCarthy and Fiona McAllister, WNBL player and Captain of the Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras Chantella Perera, and Metabolic Nutritional and Certified Body Transformation Specialist and owner of Assist PT in Lilydale, Annette Shepherd.

MC for the night Councillor Samantha Dunn who has been involved in all four Women in Leadership events said that the night was “an important event in the Yarra Ranges Calendar. We are very committed to encouraging women into leadership roles, and the Women in Leadership forum is a great way to do so”.
