The Women enter the 2010 Development League Season with a mix of experience and newcomers but a squad which is again full of youth.  Head Coach Ed Dunstan has been hard at work preparing his squad since November and is excited by the teams prospects.

Kilsyth enter the Season having hosted and participated in the Yarra Ranges Classic where they defeated Frankston, lost close games to Brisbane and Knox and were beaten convincingly by Dandenong.

The second year of the women’s D League will feature a new team with Bendigo joining the competition in 2010. This has seen the League grow to 8 teams and mirror that of the men.

The Workforcexs Lady Cobras have kept the majority of last year’s core, but have also seen a number of players rewarded for their outstanding development.  Jordyn O’Shea has been promoted to a full time member of the Swinburne Lady Cobras Senior team while Kate Ebzery and Rebekah O’Donnell have been awarded development positions on the team.

This progression of these players to the Senior squad is testament to the hard work done by each of the players and 2009 Coach of the Year Ed Dunstan.

After finishing 4th in 2009 and beating each team at least once, Kilsyth will be looking to improve on this record and again progress to the finals.

Unlike their female counterparts the men go into the 2010 Season with a whole new look.  Head Coach Rod Popp graduated seven players from last year’s program with Tim Mulhall, Glenn Potts and David Moore all progressing to the SEABL side while Joel Naburgs (Stetson University), Liam McInerney (Stetson University), Brett Seljak (West Georgia University) and Cameron Johnson (Viterbo University) all took up scholarship in the United States.

The new look line up has been putting in the effort on the floor and in the gym during the off-season to prepare for 2010 and have played a number of practice games including the Yarra Ranges Classic.  The Cobras finished 2-2 during the tournament defeating Knox and Brisbane while losing to Dandenong and Frankston.

Despite being a younger team than 2009, Coach Popp has high expectations with his entire team looking to impress. With clear pathways to both College and the Men’s SEABL team now established, these young players are seeing the opportunities that can be presented if they continue to work hard.

Kilsyth were bundled out of the semi finals by eventual premier Sandringham in 2009 and Coach Popp will again be expecting his team to return to the post season.
