There were mixed emotions when the Workforcexs Kilsyth Cobras split the wins from Saturday night’s double header against the Sandringham Sabres.
The Workforcexs Lady Cobras took their win-loss tally to 6-3 in what was a convincing win in a scrappy game on Saturday night against the Sandringham Lady Sabres. The game started slowly with both teams struggling to score, the Workforcexs Lady Cobras took a 4 point lead at the end of the first.
Both teams were able to pick up the scoring in the second quarter; however the Workforcexs Lady Cobras were still able to keep the scoreboard pressure up equalling their first quarter effort of 13 points and extending the first quarter lead by one to enter the major break at 26-19.
The second half told a similar tale to the first, with the Workforcexs Lady Cobras controlling the game with no evident resistance from the Lady Sabres ending the game with a 15 point victory, 52–37. Sam Drescher continued her April “Player of the Month,” form finishing the game with a handy double double (24pts, 13rbds).
The Workforcexs Cobras were not able to back up the girl’s efforts, recording their third loss of the season. In a game that saw 2nd playing 3rd on the ladder, fans were anticipating a close match-up.
Like the women, the game started off slowly with the Workforcexs Cobras trailing by two at the end of the first quarter 9-11. Kilsyth started to do some damage in the second quarter, hitting 15 points in the second, but they still allowed the Sabres to extend their lead at the half to five points, 25–30.
From here on Sandringham took the game from the Workforcexs Cobras, dominating the paint 24-10 and making the most of their second chances. The Sabres finished the game with a 14-point win, 50–64, after leading at the final break by nine points.
Kilsyth suffered from poor shooting throughout the game, shooting at a measly 28%, compared to their opponents 44% shooting from the field. On top of this, the Workforcexs Cobras had to compete with Sandringham’s ability to get the ball in deep and score in transition.
