Malvik finished his career at Winona State first in games played and assists and second in scoring, field goals attempts and field goals made. With career averages of 14.8 ppg, 4.1 assists and 3 rebounds, he finished his career as one of the most distinguished players in WSU history.
Malvik will bring a new dimension to a Cobras team, who were the 2007 SEABL South Conference runners up. Not since Michael Wheeler and Damon Lowery graced the Snakepit floor, have the Cobras had a ‘general’ barking orders down the floor. The arrival of Malvik will instantly add another dimension to an experienced Cobras team.
Malvik’s individual and team awards speak for themselves, but his courage may be his most outstanding characteristic. Having snapped his fibula in the last 15 minutes of the last practice session before NCAA D2 regional finals in 2006, Malvik managed to play, despite limited minutes, in both the regional and elite eight finals.
“People said, ‘How can you play on that?’ It was very painful, but my teammates were very supportive, and they wanted me out there giving whatever I could,” said Malvik.
Malvik is excited about the chance of playing professional basketball in Australia.
“We have a good group of guys who I think can be a great team in 2008. SEABL is a great standard of competition and I look forward to the challenge of seeing where I stand,”
Coach Wallace is optimistic about 2008, and is looking forward to getting Malvik on the court with his new teammates.
“The guys have a renewed confidence coming into season 2008 to go one step better than 2007. Zach had an outstanding NCAA career, we are very pleased with his decision to choose us over playing in America’s CBA we he was recently drafted in the 3rd round, said Wallace.
Malvik arrived earlier in the week to begin his professional basketball career in Australia. The Cobras faithful will be looking forward to their first opportunity to see Zach play when the team takes on the Victorian U/20 State Side at Kilsyth, Thursday February 7th.
