Cobras Crowned Inaugural VWBL Champions; Continue to set the standard in Wheelchair Hoops

The Cobras capped a perfect 6-0 regular season with a pair of dominant finals victories, to take home the newly formed league’s first championship trophy. Led by former Paralympic stars Campbell Message (head coach), Amanda Carter (assistant coach), the Cobras were in a league of their own, highlighting the strength of the Cobra program; one that is backed by Kilsyth’s weekly wheelchair competition.
Kilsyth’s wheelchair competition - which runs weekly on Thursday nights - and seasonal development programs have been influential in developing a number of rising wheelies stars, with all ten of Cobra athletes - plus coaches Message and Carter - playing in our competition on a regular basis. Kilsyth’s program has seen our Cobra athletes take their game to another level in 2025: Teisha Shadwell was named VWBL league MVP following a standout season - one which saw her lead the competition in scoring - while U23 national team member, Rhys Higgins, was crowned Defensive Player of the Year.

Kilsyth success in the elite wheelchair basketball space comes as no surprise, as the Cobras won a trio of national championships - two Men’s and one Women’s - in the National Wheelchair Basketball League between 2015 and 2016. Now crowned the state’s #1 team, whilst continuing to deliver unrivalled development programs and domestic competitions, Kilsyth Basketball continues to set the standard in the elite, development and pathway space for wheelchair hoops.
