Kilsyth Named Basketball Victoria Inclusive Association of the Year

At the forefront of our inclusive programs is our Wheelchair Competition and Wheelchair Development Programs, which have played a key role in develop much of the states top and emerging talent. Our weekly Wheelchair Competition and Skills Programs have been guided by a number of former Paralympians, led by Kilsyth junior athlete John Allison, along with Campbell Message, Amanda Carter and U23 national team member, Rhys Higgins.
Our work in the inclusive space saw our very own Wheelchair Competiton continue to grow, as the Cobras convincingly took home the Victoria Wheelchair Basketball League’s inaugural championship.
In addition to our work in the wheelchair hoops space, we also launched new All Abilities and Walking Basketball initiatives in 2025, as we strive to make our great game accessible to all members of the community.
Connecting our inclusive programs are Kilsyth Basketball Competitions Manager, Lynda Spicer, and Shannan Sykes - a longtime member of our Wheelchair competition - with Lynda driving our programs and opening up inclusive pathways behind the scenes, while Shannan, along with Josh Allison, have played key roles in delivering our programs and serving as mentors to a number of aspiring athletes.
The acknowledgment at a state level affirms the unrivalled impact that our association has made in the inclusive space - an area Kilsyth has been at the forefront for the past decade. In addition to our 2025 accolades, the Kilsyth boast a trio of national championships - two Men’s and one Women’s - in the National Wheelchair Basketball League between 2015 and 2016.
