Rising NZ Star Joins Cobras
A rising star in New Zealand basketball, Shearer possesses an array of creative finishing, perimeter shooting, and impressive court vision in her offensive arsenal, with the 6’0 wing able to score off the bounce and facilitate at will. Sherarer’s versatility is not limited to the offensive end, with her quick hands and length allowing her to disrupt and defend multiple positions at a high level.

The Aukland native joins the Cobras following a spectacular collegiate career at Portland University, one filled with accolades and record breaking play. She starred for Portland in 2025, leading the team in scoring (16.7ppg) and steals (2.0spg), while ranking third in assists (2.7apg) and fourth in rebounding (4.2rpg), guiding the Pilots to a school record 31 wins. Her stellar play saw Shearer earn All-West Coast Conference (WCC) First Team honours in 2025, and the Pilots 31 victories last season were the second most ever by a WCC team.
In 2024, Shearer was also named to the All-WCC First Team, and led the Pilots to a conference championship and NCAA tournament berth. She finished her career at Portland littered in throughout the Pilots record book, ranking amongst the program’s top-ten all time leaders in scoring (#4), steals (#2), three point makes (#7) and field goal percentage (#8), and her 159 career games also broke a national record back home for the most collegiate games played by a New Zealander.
Following her time in Portland, Shearer represented New Zealand at this year’s FIBA Asia Cup, where she ranked second on the Tall Ferns roster in scoring and assists en-route to a fifth place finish. Shearer A busy calendar year has also seen her star in the NBL1 North with the Mackay Meteors, and currently with Tauranga Whai in the Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa - formerly known as the New Zealand National League.
With a hoops resume most would dream of at just 23 years of age, the sky is the limit for Shearer - and the Cobras - in 2026 and beyond.
