Despite close attention from Cobra Quincy Henderson, CJ Massingale once again lit it up against the Cobras finishing with 32pts and 10 rbds, in the low scoring game, he proved the difference with two scoring sprees at the start of the 3rd and 4th quarter.  Massingale had 10 pts at the start of each of those quarters to shatter the Cobras hopes.

Joe Werner and Gerard Leonard battled foul trouble all game as did Raider Lester Strong as neither of these players made an impact in the game.  Chris Cameron (21pts, 5 rbds) and Quincy Henderson (13pts, 11rbds) were the standouts for Kilsyth.

Knox started well in the opening term racing to a 27-20 quarter time lead.  Leonard picked up his third foul mid way through the 1st and was forced to sit.  Struggling from behind the arc it looked like it was only going to be a tough night for the Cobras.

Adam Jackon and Quincy Henderson provided the spark in the 2nd quarter, in a low scoring term they got the Cobras back into the game with some solid defensive stops.  Knox held a 38-35 half time lead but the Cobras looked threatening.

Massingale exploded early in the 3rd hitting the first 10 pts of the quarter to extend the Raiders lead to 13.  Kilsyth once again had to fight back and after the slow start pulled the margin back to 3 at the final change.

Werner, Leonard and Strong all started the 4th with five fouls and the winner was going to be the team who could keep their players on the floor the longest.  When Werner fouled out 11 secs into the 4th Kilsyth were in trouble as Massingale again got hot, hitting the opening 10 points of the quarter.

Kilsyth battled hard to regain the momentum but Knox played out the contest well to record the low scoring victory.  The loss drops the Cobras to 1-2 on the season with a round 4 match up against the 2008 Champions Hobart next Sunday.

The Swinburne Lady Cobras struggled against their more polished rivals in the opening match of the Cystic Fibrosis Cup.  With Erica McMenamin absent and Clare Papavs still injured, Coach Jason Knight was forced to play Gemma Kerr and Sarah Parsons out of position.

Box Score

The Lady Cobras were right in the game in the opening term shooting it at 57% from the field compared to the Raiders at 22%. But when Sarah Parsons (13pts, 8rbds) picked up her 4th foul in the second term, the Raiders were allowed to run wild building a 16pt half time lead.

Amy Denson (4pts, 10rbds) struggled to get her hands on the ball throughout the game taking just 9 shots but despite their struggles, Kilsyth stayed with the Raiders in the 3rd term keeping themselves within range of making a comeback.

The margin proved too much for the Cobras in the 4th term and shooting just 30% on 3/10 from the free throw line compared to 25/31 from the Raiders was never going to be enough.

The Lady Cobras now fall to 1-2 on the season with their first home game next Sunday against the Launceston Tornadoes.  Kilsyth will officially unveil their 2008 Championship banner prior to the game.
