With under seven minutes remaining in Saturday night’s elimination final, Adnam emphatically swatted a shot by the Hawks Daniel Port off the glass, with the Cobras Adi Tomada picking up the loose ball and kicking ahead to Ben Ursich for a transition dunk.

The play gave Kilsyth a double-digit lead, enough for the Cobras to secure a 79-69 home win and move them within one game of their third consecutive VYC championship game. The fourth quarter highlight sequence by Adnam, Tomada and Ursich was one of many for Kilsyth, as they combined to overpower the Hawks and keep their season alive. The trio were simply unstoppable, combining to score 50 of the Cobras final 52 points, including all 22 of Kilsyth’s fourth quarter points.

Adnam scored 10 of his game-high 25 points in the final period to go along with six rebounds and five assists, Ursich added 22 points, four assists and three steals, and though he struggled from the field, Tomada recorded a near triple double, finishing with 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in a game that was closer than many expected.

Leading 41-35 early in the third quarter and appearing to be in control, the Cobras surrendered a 15-6 run to the Hawks over the next five minutes to find themselves down, 47-50. But led by Adnam, Kilsyth responded with a 10-0 run to reclaim the lead heading into the final 10 minutes, and his early fourth quarter blitz was enough to secure a home preliminary final against Knox on Sunday.

Knox punched their ticket to the preliminary finals with a with a 67-50 win over Bulleen, behind strong games from Chris Douglas, Jake Horstman and Ben Waterhouse. The return of Waterhouse from the US has strengthened the Raiders lineup, with he, former SEABL player Dylan Hare and Mitch Unwin giving Knox a ample firepower on the perimeter.

Tipoff is scheduled for 1.30pm on Sunday at the Kilsyth Sports Centre, with the Powered by AGL Cobra men opening the day in NWBL action at 11.00am.
