Kilsyth Basketball has announced it is parting ways with Cobras Men’s import, Nelson Kirksey.

Director of Basketball Operations, Mark Watkins, stated that the release of Kirksey was due to where the swingman fit within the current makeup of the team’s roster, with the Cobras currently finding themselves in a dogfight for playoff positioning in the SEABL’s East Conference.

“We felt that Nelson just wasn’t the right fit for our current roster; things didn’t work out as well as we had initially hoped,” Watkins said.

“We do thank Nelson for his time at Kilsyth, and wish him all the best with the next chapter in his basketball career.”

In 10 games with Kilsyth, Kirksey finished with averages of 13.5 points per-game on 39.7% shooting, adding 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per-outing  The Cobras went 5-5 during that span, and they currently sit just a half game ahead of Sandringham and Albury-Wodonga for the final playoff position in the East Conference.

The process for evaluating a replacement has begun, with an announcement expected within the next two weeks.
