Chambers comes to Kilsyth with outstanding credentials having coached the Bulleen Boomers in the WNBL from 2001/02 through to the 2008/09 Season amassing a 90-81 win-loss record.

During this time she was also as Assistant Coach with the Australian Sapphires and Gems (2001-2005) and the Australian Opals (2005-2007) including at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Prior to her outstanding coaching career, Chambers played over 250 games in the WNBL and represented Australia.  She is a life member of the WNBL.

Association President Malcolm Allison welcomed Chambers to the Club while highlighting the experience she will bring to the Club.

“Cheryl has outstanding credentials and presented an impressive vision for the future for the Lady Cobras. We are thrilled to have an individual of Cheryl’s status commit to the Club,” said Allison.

Chambers is excited about the prospect of joining Kilsyth and is looking forward to the challenge of coaching in the SEABL.

“Looking from a far Kilsyth has always been a well run Association. Desi (Desiree Glaubitz) always spoke highly of the Club when she returned during to the Bulleen WNBL program,” she said.

Chambers highlighted the job done by her predecessor Jason Knight in the role while outlining what she hopes to bring to the program.

“I want to bring another level of professionalism to the program, create a culture of continual improvement and develop winning attitudes.  I anticipate playing an up tempo style of game that is fun to watch with a high scoring offence and intense defence.”

The first task for the new coach will be preparing a roster which can compete for the 2010 SEABL Championship.

“I have a philosophy that everyone on a team is important and that everyone on the squad will have a role.  We will be looking for group of 10-12 players who are fit, athletic and can play a fast style of game and get up the floor defensively,” concluded Chambers.

Chambers will now begin planning for the upcoming season and shaping a roster that can compete for a Title.
