After Auryn Macmillan scored inside to tie the game at 16 midway through the opening period, the Cobras offence went south in a hurry and the Sabres capitalised, reeling off a 29-7 run spanning the first and second quarters to take control of the game.

Kilsyth would chip away, though, closing to within 60-53 with three minutes remaining in the third quarter, but Sandringham responded once again, this time with a game-sealing 13-2 run to end the period. Any hopes of a Cobras comeback were stymied by a 4-for-14 shooting performance from downtown, with Kilsyth failing to score 20 points in any quarter as they dropped their fifth loss of the season.

Nelson Kirksey led the Cobras with 17 points, Gabe Hadley added 13, and Macmillan chipped-in with 12 points in the loss.

The loss drop’s the Men to 5-5 on the season, keeping them in fourth place in the East Conference. The Cobras are now just a half game ahead of the Sabres and Albury-Wodonga for the conference’s final playoff position, and are back on the road to take on Ballarat on Sunday (2pm).
