A graduate of the University of Arizona, Dillon has enjoyed a successful career both in Australia and overseas, and gives the Cobras an experienced and dynamic two way player. During his time with the Wildcats in the NCAA, Dillon was used primarily as a defensive specialist and has continued to expand his game ever since, with his playmaking ability on both sides of the ball set to ignite the Cobras with some excitement on the perimeter.

Cobras Head Coach Justin Schueller is thrilled to have Dillon on board, and has high praise for character he brings to the team. Schueller has had his eye on Dillon since late last year, and with the 6’4 guard now on board, he likes the Cobras chances at making a late run at the playoffs.

“Daniel’s a great teammate, high character guy and super coachable, and I look forward to what he will bring to us,” Schueller said.

“We wanted to sign him a while back but he was still overseas playing, so the timing has worked out this time and it allows us to make a great run at the playoffs.”

Following a three-year stint in the NBL (most recently with the Melbourne Tigers in 2012), Dillon has carved out an impressive career in Europe with CSM Oradea (Romania) and more recently with Turow Zgorzelec (Poland). In 2015-16, Dillon had a standout season with Turow Zgorzelec in the Poland TBL, averaging 16.3ppg and 5.7apg for the season. Dillon then relocated to Japan, where he most recently played with the Hiroshima Dragonflies.

With the Cobras backcourt extremely thin – Gabe Hadley departs for the United States next week, while Alex Vanrenen and Daniel Tomada has sustained season-ending injuries – the addition of Dillon is a vital one, and Schueller expects him to make a significant impact on both ends of the floor.

“Daniel is going to add so many dimensions to our group which we have been missing these past five games,” Schueller said.

“He is a dynamic guard that is exciting on the offensive end with his scoring and passing ability, while his athleticism allows him to be an elite defender and he will be a great pairing with Owen (Odigie) in that area.”

Dillon will be ready to roll on Saturday night as the Cobras host Sandringham at the Kilsyth Sports Centre, with tip-off scheduled for 8.00pm.
