Trailing, 18-22 early in the second quarter, the Lady Cobras turned up the heat on both ends of the floor, reeling off a 19-5 run to end the period and take a 37-27 lead into halftime. Angela Beadle was unstoppable during the game-changing run, exploding for 14 second quarter points as Canberra simply had no answers for her power paint game.

And as history would show, the Lady Cobras’ double digit lead coupled with their stifling defence was enough to keep the Capitals at bay late in the game. Although Canberra shot the ball well in the second half, the Lady Cobras control of tempo and ability to play without fouls limited the Capitals to just 39 points over the final three quarters and marked the third time this season they held an opponent under 60 points for a full game.

While Kilsyth pulled out the win and produced another stellar defensive performance, Lady Cobras Head Coach Sam Woosnam saw plenty of room for improvement from her team, particularly on the offensive end.

“Canberra did a fantastic job of putting pressure on us and taking us out of what we wanted to do,” Woosnam said.

“It was good to get away with the win, but we need to become more consistent as a team and bring the same amount of energy and effort regardless of who we are playing.”

Beadle led Kilsyth with game-highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds, adding three assists and a pair of steals and blocked shots in another impressive all-around performance. Maddie Garrick followed her Player of the Week performance in Round 5 with 17 points and six assists, while Chantella Perera added nine points and five assists in the win.

The win keeps the Lady Cobras atop the East Conference standings (the BA Centre of Excellence is ineligible for finals), 1.5 games ahead of second-placed Geelong. Woosnam’s team hits the road this Saturday night to visit the Sandringham Sabres, with tip-off slated for 5.00pm, followed by the Cobra Men at 7.00pm.
