From Monday 11th to Saturday 17th January 2010, some 240 games will decide the eventual winners across five sections.  Teams from Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia will be looking to catch the West Australian’s who have won four of the five divisions for the past two years.

The Victorian A-grade men will be looking to challenge the dominant WA team hoping to use the experience of former NBL player Darren Smith to lead their charge.  Also lining up for the Vic’s is Kilsyth Workforcexs Cobra Adam Knott.

Carnival Co-ordinator Jeff Andrews spoke of the history of the tournament when asked about its origins, “Over many years ‘carnival’ has gone from a few teams playing in an old sheep pavilion to having over 300 people involved in this year’s Championships.”

The annual carnival which began in1972 is about more than just the games, “the strengths and values of carnival have been the love of the game of basketball, a strong sense of community, and a desire to communicate and live out the goodness of God,” said Andrews.

Scott Hawkins, Associate Pastor of Careforce Church Mt Evelyn, has been the guest speaker throughout the week providing valuable reflection and leadership mentoring to all participants.

The 2010 National Baptist Basketball Championships will conclude on Saturday 17th January with Grand Finals in each division followed by a presentation dinner at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood.
