This weekend marks the first round of the 2012 SEABL playoffs, and the Swinburne Lady Cobras will kick it off against cross-town rivals, Knox Raiders, this Saturday 18th August.
With first year Head Coach in Peter Gay, and the loss of Abby Bishop and Eva Afeaki, the Swinburne Lady Cobras defied expectations this season, going on a 10-game win streak midway through the season. Some tough losses came through with the loss of leading scorer and Captain Chantella Perera’s absence due to injury, but the team has rallied to finish strong.
Finishing the 2012 SEABL season with a 20-6 win/loss record, the Swinburne Lady Cobras earned themselves second spot in the South Conference, and snatching a second chance in the playoffs.
The Swinburne Lady Cobras stretched their pre-playoffs win streak to four last weekend where they beat a tough Brisbane Lady Spartans outfit by 13-points. Young Swinburne Lady Cobras guard, Jordyn O’Shea, lead her team in points with 14 and was closely followed by Kristen Barnes (13 points) and Sarah Parsons (12 points) in what was a great team effort.
The Knox Raiders are coming off the back of only their second loss this season at the hands of the Nunawading Spectres, who defeated the Raiders by three in a tightly contested match. Finishing with the best record in the South Conference with a 24-2 win/loss record the Knox Raiders will hold home court advantage against the Swinburne Lady Cobras.
The Swinburne Lady Cobras will look to come out all guns blazing when they head to the State Basketball Centre this Saturday and take the home court advantage away from the Raiders and continue their winning streak into the playoffs.
LAST TIME THEY MET… The Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras were beaten on their home court to the tune of 13 points when the two sides last met in round 17. The Swinburne Lady Cobras remained close for three quarters before being blown out in the last; Hayley Moffatt led all scorers with 17-points and pulled down nine rebounds.
It is time for all Cobra fans to throw their support behind the Swinburne Lady Cobras who take on the Knox Raiders at the State Basketball Centre this Saturday 18 August with tip-off at 6pm.
