Kilsyth Basketball has announced that Grant Wallace will return in 2013 for his 10th year as Head Coach of the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras.

Wallace led the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras to equal second in the SEABL Men’s South Conference however the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras missed out on playing in playoffs for the 2012 SEABL season, with a total of five teams remarkably finishing with a 16-12 record, all tied up for second spot, meaning the head-to-head results from these five teams determined final ladder position, leaving the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras finishing sixth in the South Conference on head to head results.

Wallace has amassed a 139-121 record in his 254 games in charge of the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras and taken the team to two conference finals in 2005 and 2007. Wallace, who became the Club’s longest serving Coach in 2010, is thankful for the opportunity to return for his 10th year and is eager to continue rebuilding the team.

“I am really excited to be giving the opportunity of a tenth year as Head Coach here at Kilsyth and thank the Board of Kilsyth Basketball for their show of support in what we are doing here”.

“2012 ended so dramatically quickly for our roster and although finishing equal second and missing out on play-offs due to the count back from the unique circumstances, our entire list feel a large amount of unfinished business which is spurring all on in their motivation and preparation for season 2013,” Wallace continued.

Wallace believes that 2012 is a great stepping stone for the team to become to improve come 2013;

“With the development in the younger team members in 2012 (Johnson, Cromarty, Knott, Reinbott) and another year’s maturity and hunger for success in the others, (O’Hea, Lang, Macmillan) plus a couple of key position signings, we will not be far away come play-offs in 2013”.

President of Kilsyth Basketball Mal Allison believes that Grant will continue his fantastic record with the club;

“It’s fantastic to have Grant sign on for his 10th season, his record speaks for itself”.

The 2013 Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras roster will now begin to take shape as Wallace builds a team that can take the Swinburne Cobras to the next level.

In another positive announcement, Grant Wallace has again been appointed as the 2013 Under 20 Men Victorian State Coach for the upcoming 2013 U20 Australian Junior Championships. Wallace will shortly begin selections for the side which will contest the titles next February 17-23 in Launceston, Tasmania.

Wallace is thrilled to coach the state team again in 2013;

“Having won the last two gold medals I am really excited to again to have the opportunity to work with the elite junior talent of this proud Basketball State and strive to gain three titles in a row”.
