Cobras high-flyer and 2017 Team MVP Owen Odigie has re-signed with Kilsyth for the 2018 SEABL season.

Odigie was outstanding in his first season at Kilsyth, establishing himself as one of the SEABL’s toughest two-way perimeter players. The swingman averaged 10.9 points per contest on a blistering 52.4% shooting from the field, and ranked third on the team in rebounding (4.7rpg) and second in assists (2.3apg).

It was his presence on the defensive end which made him the Cobras Most Valuable Player in 2017, though, constantly hounding opposing teams best perimeter scorer and fuelling numerous transition opportunities with his length and active hands. Odigie finished 2017 ranked second in the league for both total steals (41) and steals per game (1.8spg), with his defensive numbers highlighting his best statistical season in the SEABL to date.

owen-chantella-3x3Odigie’s willingness to get down and dirty on the defensive end – coupled with his highlight-reel finishes at the rim – quickly made him a fan favourite in 2017. But his work ethic and on-court demeanour is what made Odigie a beloved figure amongst his teammates and coaching staff, and Cobras Head Coach Justin Schueller is thrilled to have the high-character small forward back for the season ahead.

“Its great to have Owen back following his MVP-level season with us,” Schueller said.

“He is exciting to watch and our fans will enjoy seeing him go another level in his play this year. He is what we want our club to be about; hard working, no fuss and professional in every way.”

Odigie’s play has not gone unnoticed on a national scale, either. Before he embarks on his second season with the Cobras, Odigie will first represent Australia in late October as a member of the Australian 3×3 team which will compete at the FIBA Asia Cup.
