The Kilsyth Cobra WNWBL Women have announced their roster ahead of the 2018 regular season which tips-off this weekend.

Headlining this year’s Women’s team is Paralymian Leanne Del Toso and rising wheelchair basketball star, Teisha Shadwell. Del Toso led the Cobras in scoring and assists in 2017, while Shadwell was awarded league Rookie of the Year honours and was named Basketball Victoria’s Charles Ryan Wheelchair Athlete of the Year for 2017.

Joining Del Toso and Shadwell are Jaime Villalon, Issy Martin, Bree Mellberg, Lynne Panayiotis, Laura Davoli, Kylie Prestwich and Sally Schwartz, with former Men’s head coach Craig Campbell set to lead the team from the sidelines in 2018.

Campbell has a proven track record of success in wheelchair basketball; he led the Cobra Men to the 2015 national championship in their debut season, and has served in a variety of coaching roles for multiple Australian wheelchair teams. As he gets set to lead the Cobra Women for the first time, Campbell is looking forward to not only improving on last years record, but developing a roster full of national team candidates.

“I’m looking forward to coaching a great mix of experienced and up and coming players this season,” Campbell said.

“The league will be extra competitive this season being a world championship year for the Gliders, and next year for the U25 Australian team. We’ll be looking to build on last years results in the league as well as making sure Kilsyth players are constantly competitive and in the mix come time for national selection.”

The Cobras tip-off their regular season this weekend in Hawkesbury, NSW, as they play four round one games. They’ll make their home debut on Friday April 13 at 6.00pm, when they take on Queensland in the first game of a weekend tripleheader.
