The Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras went 1 from 2 this weekend, getting by the Sandringham Lady Sabres in a lacklustre performance on Saturday night before going down to Bendigo on Sunday.

The Kilsyth Ladies were able to edge out Sandringham by seven points on Saturday night despite a scare late in the third quarter. The game started very scrappy with both teams trading buckets for most of the first quarter to be all tied up at the first break.

The Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras were able to pick up the pace slightly in the second stacking on 20 points with some help from Hayley Moffatt. Kilsyth were able to head to the change rooms with a seven-point lead.

Not willing to roll over, the Sandringham Sabres lifted the intensity in the third quarter, with Harrington, Schinz and Ardossi all playing a crucial role in the team’s third-quarter revival.

The Sabres were able to go into the last break with a two-point lead. It was the second chance opportunities that saved the Swinburne Lady Cobras as well as the tremendous efforts on the glass, with the team getting 12 second chance points, and cleaning up the boards with 47 rebounds (21OR, 26DR).

Kilsyth were able to pull it together in the final term of play to runaway victorious 80 – 73.

Hayley Moffatt top scored with 26 points and nine rebounds, Eva Afeaki (16pts, 8rbds) and Chantella Perera (13pts, 10rbds) also reached double figures.

The Bendigo Lady Braves shot 10 from 23 at the three point line on Sunday afternoon to defeat our Swinburne Lady Cobras.

A 31-16 second quarter saw Bendigo take a 17 point lead into half time, the Swinburne Lady Cobras were able to match it with the Lady Braves in the third quarter however could not get ahead, going down 59-83.

Bendigo had five players reach double figures while only Chantella Perera (18pts, 7rbds) and Eva Afeaki (11pts) could do so the Kilsyth.

The Swinburne Lady Cobras now face Frankston this Sunday afternoon in the final game before playoffs.

The Swinburne Kilsyth Lady Cobras next game sees them take on the Frankston Lady Blues this Sunday afternoon August 21; tip-off is 12:30pm at Frankston Basketball Stadium.
