Following a slow start, Kilsyth got going after halftime, turning a tie game at the break into a 16 point win as they defeated the Sabres, 68-52. With their defence again providing the spark, the Lady Cobras were able to pull away late, with Angela Beadle, Maddie Garrick and Sarah Parsons combining to outscore the entire Sandringham roster, 30-21, in the second half to help Kilsyth cruise to victory.

Beadle and Garrick led the way for the Lady Cobras once again, with Beadle scoring 15 points and pulling down an incredible 20 rebounds, while Garrick added a game-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five assists for her fourth double-double of the season. Parsons added 10 points off the bench – tying her highest scoring output since coming out of retirement – and Chantella Perera dished out five assists and recorded three steals in the win.

Lady Cobras Head Coach Woosnam was happy to record yet another win, albeit in scrappy fashion following a bye over the Queens Birthday long weekend.

“After giving the girls a week break from training and no games over the long weekend, we were very rusty and that was to be expected,” Woosnam said.

“But we made some adjustments in the second half and managed to pull away with another important win.”

“We are still adjusting to being without some important pieces due to injury and are very much looking forward to getting them back into our line up.”

With Brittany Renton and Jenna Verhoef-Jenkins away, and Emily Fryters and Rosie Moult still recovering from injury, the Lady Cobras suited just eight players for Saturday’s game. But eight was enough to win their eighth straight game, keeping the Lady Cobras atop the league standings.

The Lady Cobras record now stands at 12-2, keeping them 1.5 games ahead of Geelong in both the East Conference and overall standings. They’ll look to make it nine in a row this Saturday when they travel to MSAC to take on the Melbourne Tigers at 5.30pm.
